WurliTzer 4602 – BWV565 Toccata (Attempt)
http://organgrinder010.blogspot.com/
I wanted to do something to show off the other side of this organs tonal spectrum. This is the console played through an Alesis MIDIverb, then output to a Leslie 125 tone cabinet.
Please excuse my butchering of this Toccata (and botching the ending), I lost my sheet music and am trying to play off memory.

Well done. Rather …
Well done. Rather interesting. Don’t like the pseudo “phasing” sound but tonally it works . . . although the bass notes give it away.
If you want a truly inspirational performance, look up “St Maximin Bach” to find one of the most amazing instruments in the world unaltered since before the French Revolution and saved from destruction by Napolean. The organist struck up the Marseillaise and they were so over-awed, they spared the instrument.
You have done a …
You have done a great job refurbishing the organ. I used to play concerts and teach on the 4600/4602 instruments for the WurliTzer store on 42nd St. NYC when they were current models back in the 50′s. Nice playing also!
Oh those French, …
Oh those French, always so critical, as if he could do better he should prove it.
I thought for your “attempt” it was very good.

Beaucoup de fautes. …
Beaucoup de fautes. Le pincé au début est trop long. Il faudra encore travailler beaucoup pour arriver à un résultat satisfaisant. Pauvre Bach s’il entend ça, il doit se retourner dans sa tombe.
FANTASTIC!

It was a struggle. …
It was a struggle. I generally don’t use sheet music, so I spent a long time crunching through it. I still have much room for improvement, and still working on the Fugue!

You are a lucky one that you can play this. 5S.
Wonderful sound, …
Wonderful sound, you’re a much better organist than I. My current best is a somewhat bad interpretation of J. Clarke’s “Prince of Denmark’s March” (you know the “Trumpet Voluntary”).
If you need sheet music try the Werner Icking Music Archive, it’s where I got most of my organ music. I’m busy trying to learn a version of “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” for the organ.
If you take requests could you try and play Johann Pachelbel’s “Chaconne in F Minor” on you Wurli 4602?
I wish i could play …
I wish i could play this piece as good as you do. You need a fast brain and fingers for that.
Congratulashuns. I like your videos.

Nothing like the sound of those old Wurlitzers and your playing was superb!!
I used to play the …
I used to play the Toccata & Fugue in D Minor years ago on a church pipe organ, it’s a fun piece to play. I would practice at home on my Hammond (lol, what a sound that was!) Your Wurlitzer with the Leslie and MidiVerb mix works very well. Very Impressive!

I forgot to add… This is another video that REALLY benefits from adding the &fmt=18 to the end of the URL for stereo sound

That was excellent. Yes I did notice a few “goofs”, but you are forgiven. I just loved to hear that organ sing. Nice job. I play that by ear on my keyboard, but it is seriouly butchered. Jim
