    basically C is the root note on a piano, therefore to make it easier to form chords, some players count from C to G to find the root chord of the G major chord (G) Not all songs are in C in fact most songs change in key at least once. You don’t sound stupid it’s just what some players do if they don’t know the notes by heart. She’s doing this as an attempt to make it easier to understand :D hope that helped you!
